Lapis Lazuli is a rock composed of multiple minerals. The blue color of lapis is mainly derived from the presence of lazurite, a blue silicate mineral of the sodalite group. Lapis forms near igneous intrusions where limestone or marble has been altered by contact metamorphism or hydrothermal metamorphism.
Natural howlite occurs as a white, marble-colored material. Dark veining runs throughout the rough, which is also known as its matrix. Howlite matrix bears a strong resemblance to a spider web, and it will range in colour from a dark brown, gray, or black.
